Splashing Around

The town of Fuquay-Varina recently opened a great Splash Pad. It is only a couple of minutes from our home and I knew Dazie would love it.
As usual her first reactions included a straight face and staring at the sights soaking it all in. I could tell she enjoyed it since she kept going towards the water, but you could barely see the excitement in her face.

I took her back the next two days and she was obviously thrilled.
Come on Mommy...Water!!

Her favorite part was the pelican that dropped water on her head. Dazie wasn't walking on her own at the time so she basically dragged me over to it. She would just stare above her until the water would drop... then giggle.

The third day was just as much fun.

Hey! Where did the water go?                           Yay!

Check out the curls!

Pullen Park visit

I remember going to Pullen Park in Raleigh as a child. I loved the kid boat ride and carousel. We would beg to go paddle boating too. I have very fond memories there, so it was extra special to take Dazie there for the first time today.

She thoroughly enjoyed the swing.

This is her second time on a carousel and she seemed to enjoy it more this time. I know her face doesn't show much excitement, but once it started moving she lit up a bit.
This is her serious face.
When she experiences something or someone new,
she usually looks like this. It doesn't last long, then she is all smiles.

We rode the train.

The ducks swim right up to you.

We had a great time together!

Pullen Park was built in 1887 and is the first public park in North Carolina. It is the 5th oldest operating amusement park in the US and the 16th oldest in the world. Only one ticket is needed for each ride and six tickets for the paddle boat ($1 per ticket; 12 months and younger ride free). There are several playgrounds and even a sand & water play area. Check it out if you are in the area.

1st Birthday Party!

Happy 1st Birthday to Dazie!

I was torn between having a small gathering and making it very simple, or going all out to celebrate a very precious moment. There are so many people in our lives that have prayed and supported us through this adoption that we couldn't imagine limiting her party.

I spoke to a few about service or community project type parties and knew that I wanted to incorporate that into our lives. It is important to Okey and I that Dazie learns to be giving and bless others. The three of us are so incredibly blessed and wanted to bless others.

So after a while I settled on a Dr. Seuss themed party where we would have a book drive. The books will be donated to the Fuquay Emergency Food Pantry. They allow children and adults to choose a book to keep. I spoke to Cynthia at the Pantry who was estatic that we would bring the books. She shares my passion for getting books into the hands of children. She told me several stories of the joy and excitement she sees when the children are able to take a book home.

Enjoy the pictures!

Star of the show...

The other star...FOOD!

Thank you to all my friends and family who attended and/or donated books!

CAKE!!

The sugar crash and then a hose down!

Party favors!

I had so much fun putting together this party, but even more fun watching Dazie enjoy it.
I'm already full of ideas for next year!

Thanks to Stephanie Rose Photography for the amazing pictures!
